Clearing our Grandmother's vintage/antique hoard!

Having one of those moments where I can't quite abandon trying to identify a mystery. Have this chunky (silver plate?) Cuff and it has half a mark, but I can't place it other standouts today, a real fur poodle brooch , a bed necklace made by Turkish prisoners of war at Gallipoli and box of little silver Victorian mechanical pencils.

Its official, I've made a jewellery spreadsheet, there's too much to keep in my head so excel to the rescue. picked out 10 brooches to set up and already have two problem children, any thoughts would be much appreciated.

This faux turquoise dome is throwing up results all over the place, from deco to Egyptian revival to Zuni tribal jewellery but none sits quite right. Looks pretty old on the metal and the construction is very cool, would love to know more.

Then the wing brooch is fairly easy to date, thanks to Linn's great article, looks like Trifari, Boucher, Vendome and Jomaz were all doing this sort of thing in the late 50s. The back metal is silver plate, it's very tarnished but an exploratory clean of a couple prongs looks promising, but there's a solder mark where it looks like a signature may have come off. Shapewise it's similar to some Boucher wing brooches, but I don't think the quality is up to that... would love any more educated guesses as it's so pretty

wow....LOVE that 1893!!!! and that pub scene is hilarious!!!
So British! Even your charm bracelet needs a working pub

Today I am being bewildered by this chonky brooch. Its proudly made in France and looks hand wired, the beads are I think pieces of quartz and agates but I can't place it for the life of me

Lovely piece. It is similar in style to pieces that were done by Rousselet in France and Miriam Haskell pieces in the US - except the construction is very different.. These earrings are the only Rousselet piece I have in my personal collection:

I did some digging based on this helpful info Linn and found an article on Rousselet identification which included this picture of a typical earring construction which looks very similar to my brooch. Going to keep digging and look for some similar bead combinations to make me more confident but it could be I'm on the right track!

We have bakelite! Simichrome arrived so I was able to test all my early plastics and these guys all past this and the smell test. Mmm. Formaldehyde. Also found some more Rousselet with the exact same clasp engraving as mine, this is from his Chanel collection so increasingly confident it's legit. Have learned a LOT about jewellery construction this week. Here is also a nice 80s Benetton sweater, identified with gratitude to the label resource

Thanks y'all! I think the bakelite buckle is one of my favs too!

Some more of today's sorting. Almost bootfaired the sea anemone necklace before spotting it's marked Los Castillo and might actually be worth a bit. The metal necklace is unmarked but I love the rocket shaped pieces by the clasp and then the bib choker is just .. a lot

I suggest that you keep pieces that you like a lot aside - including pieces that remind you of your grandmother - separate from the pieces that you decide to sell or "bootfair". Because there is so much - and so much that you don't know about, you don't want to have any regrets about "binning" or selling pieces you wished you'd kept in the future.
