Most definitely Bycin -- and into today. It's just a form of plating.

It can be as thin as a vermeil, or a heavier plate, depending on the amount of gold deposited.

 

You cay say 'gold plate' if it sounds better -- it's the same thing.

Nothing of value to add but was hoping you might post a pic of the pin on something or someone. It is just really cool and I would love to see it "in situ."
