Fur shrug ?s Could it be ermine?

Okay, it's not mink or muskrat... is as soft as beaver, but doesn't look like beaver; so what am I lookin' at here? And is this 50s? Included a pic of lining in case that helps.

Mucho THANKS!

It doesn't match anything in the Fur Resource?

I would have thought muskrat, as I have a beat-up jacket of the some fur.

Mine is going to The Humane Society, once I rip out the lining.

hmmmmm......

Deborah, that is simply gorgeous! I am not a fur maven, by any stretch of the imagination, but based on my limited knowledge, I wouild've said muskrat straight off..... Could it be river otter, which is extremely soft? I've only ever seen sheared otter, so I don't know what it would look like "au natural."

Thanks, Jamie! This is much softer than muskrat. It's the stripes that have me thrown - without the stripes I probably would say beaver just because of the softness. I've not found anything similar on the VFG fur resourse or others.

Ermine is as soft as a house cat. They are small critters, so there will be ridges where the hides are sewn together, usually with a noticeable tip for the nose area.
Here's an ermine I've had in the past, note the ridges in the pelt:

I don't think yours is ermine.

Glad I could help....there's lots of critters that are pelt-able and soft, ermine are the size of a ferret or well fed city rat, so it takes a lot of critter

deffo not ermine....its musquash or mink marmet...l think the former..

"That does kinda look like a rat pelt convention.":D

Thanks, Sara! I may just wait til the New Year and bring it to a furrier or I'll put "possibly" muskrat. Perhaps, I'm having a mental block (not unusual...), but it's unlike other muskrats I've sold.
