    MJ that little angel of yours is SO adorable!

    on my way into bed the other night, i peeped into our living room and the glow of the tree made me smile! it makes it hard to see the rest of the room (like the stockings on the mantle and our "Dear Santa, I can explain..." pillow) but it is cozy, we think ~

    ha ha! just noticed the light on my laptop (slid under the chair) is lit, too...

    Although I won't be home for Christmas, getting a tree is one of the simplest ways for me to turn a little $$ into pure joy! This year, we decided to forgo the traditional ornaments and decorated with candy canes, popcorn garlands, antique brass stampings, my victorian new years and christmas cards, and some tinsel and a few little bits we got from the person who sold us our tree stand. A friend and I made loose advent calendars for each other and our boyfriends, so there have been presents under the tree since the 1st!

    As usual, it's crooked as all get-out and looks better at night.

    Hey Pam (Glamoursurf)! I LOVE your jeweled christmas tree! My grandfather made 3 pieces similar to yours for each of his children. My mom puts hers out every year. Her is quite large in a very elaborate frame with lights and layer apon layer of gorgeous vintage jewels. Lynn would probably cry if she saw the pieces that had been pulled apart to be used for this tree:). I will try and post a picture of it next time I get over to her house. I was so surprized to see yours because I kinda thought it was my grandfathers "creation"! Ha Ha! I should have known better! I wonder if this was a common craft that people did with their out of style jewelry. Where did you get yours or did you make it? Anyway, I just wanted you to know how it made me smile. Amy

    I'm just putting the finishing touches on our tree...

    OK, OK, this is our tree from a few years back, with my late-great sidekick Mrs. Jefferson in the foreground. Our tree is much like this now, but I sure do miss my kitty. I love seeing your pets in with the trees!

    Well I tried to get my little doggy, Lucy, to sit under the tree for a pic but the minute I suggested it she went in her crate and hasn't been seen since. Apparently she has become camera shy - not even a puperoni will lure her.

    This tree itself is old. It was my husband's grandmother's tree. I am not sure exactly how old because everytime she sees the tree, she tells me a different year that it was purchased. Suffice to say, when you are putting it together, you KNOW it is old.

    The angel on the top is too big and my husband bought the wrong size white lights and our house is very small so the tree is shoved into a corner...but somehow it still makes me feel peaceful when I look at the tree at night in a dark room.

    The pink angel ornament is my fav - I have two of them. I know that these were on the tree when I was very little and that I was always loved them. My mother gave them to me a few years ago, and I still love them.

    This is a great thread. What fun. You all have some great trees. I must say, Denise, you are looking quite fabulSOUS there in your lingerie as you decorate the tree! :)

    my cousins, Karen and JoAnne, each have one that their mother made for them after her mother (their grandmother) passed away ~ she used only broken and mate-less jewelry and they are piled deep and are beautiful! Their dad rigged in teeny tiny lights to twinkle in/behind/through it, it is absolutely dazzling!

    this would have been around the 60s...

    I love all the trees and pets and shoes!
    Rosebudrose, I love how old-fashioned your tree looks!

    Okay, here is from about ten years ago. For whatever reason, I just can't seem to get it together lately.

    Thank you Amy. Actually I've had this for quite a few years. I got it at a thrift shop many moons ago. I went back the week after I got it and they had one with the small lights on it (embedded from the back) but it wasn't for sale. Since then I have found the crafting brochure that was put out in 1973. I did a blog post about it in 2008 here.

    I've really been enjoying this thread. I'd love to find a vintage aluminum tree one year!

    That snoopy is adorable. As a result of this thread, I am now going to start collecting Christmas tree decorations. I live in a very small flat and don't have a tree, just wall decorations, but this thread has inspired me, so next year I think I will!

    Love the aluminum trees! My grandmother had one, with the gel covered light/fan combo. It was mesmerizing in 1960, let me tell you.

    The cat has been quite good so far------------

    Santa's first present deposit - more arrived tonight! We can't remember which of our mother or grandmother made the tree skirt in the 50s-

    The warm and toasty fire - Santa hung the stockings with care today while I wasn't watching

    <img src=http://pastperfectvintage.com/photos/tree2.jpg>

    My mother in law made this many years ago - DH as child, of course

    <img src=http://pastperfectvintage.com/photos/tree3.jpg>

    And one of the few ornaments from our childhood that survived the Great Falling Tree Disaster of 2001

    Merry Christmas one and all!
