Origin and history of criss-cross ties

Hi, everyone! I'd love to find out anything you all might know or be able to dig up on the origins and history of criss-cross ties (like the ones worn by Catholic schoolgirls). I've looked online but haven't found much information. Thanks so much in advance!
 
this is from a trade member who answered a similar query on our private side years ago:

Continental 'crossover' Tie. BlackTieGuide has a good explanation. "Continental Ties. Introduced around 1957, the crossover continental tie was simply a wide strip of silk that overlapped under the throat." at the very bottom of this page:

we also used to refer to them as "usher ties" back in the 80s.
