So...WHAT are you carrying?

Someone did a documentary a few years ago about what women carry in their purses - it was wonderful.

They interveiwed all sorts of gals - older, younger, various economic groups. Even a few celebs. They all emptied out their purses on camera.

I remember Phyllis Diller - she looked great, by the way - explaining that she needed a bag big enough for two pair of sunglasses, one for function and the other to look glamorous, plus a silk scarf in case the hair wasn't doing well, and the cloth dinner napkin she always carried because paper napkins in restaurants were always inadequate and small.

I'd love to see it again.

That sounds interesting!

Phyllis Diller is such a riot. She still keeps plugging along like a much younger person.

I bet some of these celebrities  have people so they don't need to carry a lot of extra stuff with them...it is all taken care of. They don't need to be their own secretary, accountant, publicist, maid, etc, etc. The last time i went out with only a pair of sunglasses I must have been a young teenager.

This is awful.... please don't kick me out of the club for this! I own about 100 vintage bags. I have a great collection. My husband buys them for me as gifts and spends a good deal of money on them. I LOVE each and every one down to the bottom of my soul.

What do I carry? A tote bag my mom made out of 60's drapes. Every day. I should be ashamed.

I rarely carry a vinty bag either except for evening wear....

Since I have been off work, all I carry is a leather waist pouch as I power walk a lot of the time....Other than that, I am a Dooney and Bourke girl, a nice sturdy shoulder bag that carries all my stuff and lord only knows I have way too much crap...

I am always on the lookout for the perfect bag to carry. It has to be lightweight, preferably fine leather, several compartments, flat like a messenger bag so I can sling it across my chest when I shop. I just found a nice Stone Mountain bag at the Goodwill that fits almost all these criteria, but it's brown. I want a black one.

I loved that red white and blue clutch! I'm so glad you are enjoying it and it's found a good vintage home. As for Mom's LV, OLD OLD OLD is approx. mid 70's. I took it to the LV boutique at Saks and they said it was from around 73-74. When did LV start making the speedy? This is a big one ..not one of those teensy ones you see today.

THe speedy has been around for ever since I can remember/was aware of it. I have never owned one of course, but don't remember it not being around.

Yes, I really love it. It is one of those imponderables wondering of Miss Lewis ever had to do anything with regular LEwis

That is darling Brenda!!! The shape is very cool!

Lately I have found myself complimenting ladies on their purses!! One gal was carrying the most gorgeous reptile skin bag with really unusual shape...I just had to say something!! She was gushing about her new purse...I am sure it cost a fortune...so she probably felt it was definitely worth the money after a stranger said something about it!!!! I felt it was my duty as a lover of fashion!!!

It should come as no surprise to the regulars that for evening, I carry a lucite purse. I have a few to chose from. :cool2:

During the day, I am a vintage LV monogram ho. Lately, I've been carrying my recently acquired Alma. But sometimes its a vintage Speedy, St. Cloud, Chantilly or Noe. But I'd glady trade them for Anne's vintage oxblood Kelly!

I was thinking the same thing...all my purses for that one LOL

Leigh, now it comes as no shock that its lucite in the evening.

.........now show us a PICTURE of it........................

:P

I am not carrying it, but here is my new carryall. Complete with lipstick holder, mini comb, mirror et al...

I have always wanted one...now i have it :)

I actually carry a vast majority of my vintage purses. I realized a long time ago that no one was going to PAY me enough money for them to compensate for the seperation pains.
I just alternate them frequently.
But I must say... I do tend to gravitate towards the not-so-well-made or already-worn-in ones that I have... keeps the guilt at bay since I'm not exactly gentle on purses.
yesterday's purse is a black patent leather 60's bag (hmmm maybe a kelly at that) with goldtone kiss snap.
Today's is an oversize retro tote-bag in a 50's inspired yellow Hawaiian print fabric with little pin-up gals scattered about.

It's so lovely!!! You must be thrilled, or as my South African sister in law says, "thrills on toast!"
