Vintage Inspirations: Calming Lavender
Maybe it started with Pantone’s Ultra Violet, the color of the year in 2018; its pale counterpart lavender simply breezed into favor for spring and summer 2019.
Lavender—historically so often worn for its soft illumination near the face by “women of a certain age”—is a pastel for grown-ups. Its dignity was so accepted that in the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras in Britain, lavender was a hue worn for half-mourning dress.
In this year’s reset, shades of lavender are paired with leopard prints, edgy shapes, feathers, glitter, and bare skin. Lavender for unexpected accessories, lavender in floral prints. The color is shining for warm weather events.
This week we show the vintage inspirations for lavender’s revival, ready for all your summer goings-on.
