Vintage Inspirations/Fall 2016 Call to Arms: Strong Shoulders and Sleeves September 5th

From shoulder to wrist, designers are focused on sleeve shapes this fall. Suits and jackets have strong, square shoulders inspired by the padded shoulders of the 1940s and the 1980s power suit. Dresses, jackets and even knitwear sport leg-of-mutton and other unusual, puffed and draped sleeve styles--inspired by eras as diverse as the 1890s, the 1930s and the 1970s. Join the VFG "Arm-y" as we share the vintage styles that inspired this fall's runway creations: dresses, suits and jackets, coats, knits and other clothing items with bold shoulders or unique sleeve shapes.

Mary Jane,

I don't recall the 6 item rule, but it now runs under the "regular" parade rules of 5 item-limits. However, at times, the rule has been slightly flexible. :)

Thanks for bringing up your concerns about the parades.

Yes, the VI parade format has evolved recently - kind of downsized and incorporated into the regular weekly parades. Due to the explosion of social media and other online changes, I believe the Site Committee and Board agreed that these were appropriate changes for a better fit with membership participation.

Additionally, more Vintage Inspirations parades will appear in the regular Fashion Parade "route," sporadically throughout the year (not solely during spring and fall), as current trends in fashion reflect vintage roots!

Thank you for appreciating and participating in the parades! Members' participation is what makes them great!

Late 1950s wool tweed suit with batwing sleeved jacking, turning into blouson-belted back.

Shoulder-yolk detail featured on this WWII-era Simplicity suit patter (love the ruffled sleeve, too)!

Love the way this 1944 original design bridesmaid's gown's yolk fashions its cap sleeve at the same time!

Early-1940s bridal gown had huge puffed sleeves (photo from "Pin-up" vintage fashion show event staged in the famous Bullocks-Wilshire, Los Angeles, Louis XVI Couture Salon). (Bride and bridesmaid gowns and headpieces, courtesy: www.etsy.com/shop/JazzbugJam - previously sold-)
