You in the 1980s!

My summer pics in the 80s show a reddish-blondish tendency because sunlight always brought that out. My natural color in the winter is showing in these photos, and my current hair color is ~faux~ although kind of close to the summer color.

Louise, you're my English doppelganger! I would have wanted to be your friend - I regret not going to the Hacienda (didn't arrive in the UK until '91) and love all those bands. I spent the '80s hanging out with musos but I didn't have the guts for a quiff, I had a platinum blonde mod bob - I'll have to see if I can dig up photos too now as I want to join all you cuties!

Maggie, I love the one of your hair in front of your face but like you with your honey blonde hair now.

Nicole

I'm sure we would have been friends Nicole. I'd have been secretly jealous of your platinum blonde bob for definite! I was still going to the Haçienda in 1991 - in fact my clubbing days didn't finish until about 2002! I know! Twenty years of clubbing! I'm amazed I'm still alive!

There's a link underneath my photo for the Haçienda. It's been developed into apartments now. There was a massive auction of contents when it finally closed it's doors and my BIL bought some of the yellow and blue glazed bricks that were inside the club. A very sad day!

There have been many different hair styles since that photo in '84 but I think the flat-top was probably my favourite (and my mum's LEAST favourite)! Anyway, if you can't have a haircut like that when you're 19, when can you? :icon_dante:

And Linn - you are just so chic! And those dimples!! My favourite photo of you (so far) is the one in Paris in 1985 with your hand-woven dress (wow) and your dark bob. You actually look French! Now we would have made an 'odd couple' back then wouldn't we?? You with your chic look and me with my flat-top and heavy eye makeup

Can't wait to see more of these photos. Here's to surviving the 80's!!! :drinkingtoast:

I love this thread - this is so fun!

Everybody looks so, well, 80's!

Here's a couple of me in the late 80's.

I've shown some of these before but here goes:

Here's a picture of me in Paris - August 1985. The dress is hand-woven. I bought it at a Craft's fair in Honolulu. I wish I still had all that hair!!!

I was just a baby! I was 13. I had the hair, the neon clothes, and the shirt ties. Remember those? You put your long shirt in the shirt slide on the side (or tied it in a knot) and wore it over leggings. I had tons of those shirt slides. I can't find a picture of it, though. When did the pinning the ankles of the jeans start? I did that, too. LOL.

Aw! Vicki! How old were you in your photos? So fresh faced! hehe! Weren't we all? :booze:

I don't know if you want guy stuff... but here you are... I have not one image of me done up ala Depeche Mode in 1981ish, in mascara, winklepickers and a shark skin suit, so you will just have to take my word... I did dig up these three however: (life lesson - take LOTS of pics when you are young so you don't have to settle for the few blurry, bad hair and stupid pose pics you do have...)

New Years Eve 1984 - the theme was 'Guy Lombardo's 1940' and Kenn and I are wearing vintage tuxes.

Spring 1986 - This was my VERY brief foray into the world of mullets - I had my hair cut a week later, right after I saw this pic because I thought I looked like trailer trash. Kenn is doing the Izod and deck shoes thing, I have jazz oxfords (past their best before date) and a vintage liquor bottle print shirt from the 60s (I wore a lot of busy printed vintage Hawaiians around this time)
image02.jpg

January 1989 - Hair is now short on sides and full on top (inspired by Tom Selleck in Three Men and a Baby), cowboy boots, tight black jeans (I was having a thin year), lots of denim, and oversized dress shirts with suspenders (all suspenders and many shirts were vintage)

Vicki, you're so pretty in pink...love that dress, the hair, everything!

Jonathan, yes, yes, yes! I want guy stuff, because I hope to show the most cool picture of my guy with spiked up white hair. He needs company! Gosh you were cute with all those looks...I don't see the trailer trash.

We were all so young then....*sigh*

OMG Maggie, all these are so wonderful, it brings a smile to my face. I'll attempt to find some of mine for my punk 80s days later today.

I have tons of old pictures around. My mom sends me some every year. This is the only one I could find on the computer though. This is 1987/88 when I first started college. Photo 101 and oh so artsy (and embarrassing)!

Found some photos, I had forgotten were in the computer. Here are some from the early to mid 80s when I was living my vintage dream with by B&M shop here in Montreal.

My high school friend Sue & I posing outside the shop, I actually would wear my petticoats and victorian/edwardian blouses and camisoles to go out it.

Still have a huge collection of hats!

Wish I still had this dress, it was a beautiful rich shade of cornflower blue with gold metallic zigzag!

This is a shop that I used to purchase from, this lady had been selling vintage in Montreal since the 1960s, her daughter is carrying on the business as she passed away last year.

I still have both these outfits and wore the 20s sequin dress which has fuschia pink flowers to a wedding.

Great photos girls! Connie you look mean and moody - and cool! Love the hair. We called that a Perry-cut! Mary Jane - your photos are fabulous! Your cornflower blue flapper dress is just gorgeous!

Wow, your photos are all so cool! I can't help much here though - I was born in '79 and can't say I developed mucht of a fashion sense in the 10 years afterwards :P - that took a little longer. Okay, I had my Barbie dolls and loved their fashions - and my fashion doll collection is having quite the 80s revival right now. I'm delving back to my childhood! Some of those outfits were really cool... not to forget, there were really fab Oscar de la Renta evening gowns for Barbie!

Mary Jane - I didn't realise you were in Montreal! It's one of my very, very favourite cities...! I spent three months there about four years ago and completely fell in love with it! Do you only sell on the internet, or do you have an actual shop too? I wonder if I know the shop you mention... where is it? I know I'll be going to Montreal again :saint:. I've some awesome vintage finds each time I was there.

Connie, your photo actually reminds me of some old 80s photos my the father of the host family I was staying with in Montreal had shown me of himself. The style was pretty much the same.
