Hello everyone! my name is Ruben, vintage clothing lover, tireless hunter and a follower of VFG for years. This website has been really helpful to learn about vintage fashion and date many of the clothes I buy. I have an interesting collection of vintage fashion from the 50's to the 2000's and since a year ago I also started selling on Etsy through my store AttaVintageShop. Finally I decided to join this community and share doubts and experiences with other vintage lovers. Sorry for my English, I'm Spanish with little level of English.

    Hello :)
My name is Mel trading as Emjay's Burrow. Vintage and Antiques have always fascinated me. As a small child I would love to take out everything from my grandfathers glass cabinet! My grandfather was also into older things, and was an amateur archaeologist helping excavate sites in the north east of Britain, South Shields Roman Fort and parts of Hadrian's Wall. His nickname for me was MJ hence the first part of my name the second comes from my love of rabbits and hares and as I hoard what better place to store things than in my Burrow :)

So it is not 'just' clothes! I craft and hate waste so up-cycle older items, ones that can not be repaired get stripped of anything that I may be able to use, some I repair and others just wait patiently for me to make up my mind about!! I do wear some of my vintage clothes, they were made to be used :)

I love learning and it seems such a shame that so much knowledge has been lost. Sites like this are to be cherished and I have been casually visiting for sometime, decided I need to join in the fun :) Sharing what little I do know and hopefully learning from others the vast amount I don't know :) I have no set time or style of clothes that I specialise in, it all interests me.

Welcome @Emjay Burrow. Feel free to ask questions. Our members include museum curators, authors, costume designers, and of course an international group of folks who sell and buy all kinds of vintage fashion. One thing we don't do is authenticate designer labels or value items. Otherwise, feel free to pick our brains and to share your treasures with us.

Hello all. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Carmel Crawford and I own a vintage clothing shop in Drogheda, Ireland. I have been following the Vintage Fashion Guild site for a number of years and I have always found it to be a great help to me in my research of vintage designers. I particularly like to know about the designers that I come across and I tend to look on quality vintage clothing as works of art. Recently I bought a collection of dresses by the designer Ian Thomas. He was an assistant to Norman Hartnell and also designed for the Queen for twenty years. He died in 1993. I am currently researching his work so any bits of information would be most welcome. I am looking forward to being a part of the Forum and I will certainly benefit from the interactions of members. Kind regards.

Hello Carmel and welcome to the Vintage Fashion Guild. Interesting about Ian Thomas. I hope you learn more about his work here. I'm sure we have quite a few members who look on vintage clothing as works of art.

@Marilyns Vintage The name rings a bell. I saw one of his gowns for the Queen and the sketch of the original design at an exhibition at Kensington Palace a few years ago.

The dress was made in 1974, and she wore it on several occasions until 1982, but obviously the sleeves were shortened at some point. But she must have well liked it, and kind of liked it too, especially the idea with the big sleeves - unpractical but dramatic, and the beading was beautiful.

Thank you so much for that. It’s very interesting and terrific to see the dress. That all fits in with what I know of Ian so far. Kind regards, Carmel

Hey guys. New here. Came across a few items recently. Uncle used to work at Libertys of London mid 80s- mid 90's and he has a few bits I'm trying to get off him. Need somewhere to verify a few pieces.

Hello, I just signed up to the forum; I have too many questions about historic men's clothes that cannot be answered on style forums, so I was pleased to discover this place. I live in Ireland and work as an artist, and though I am completely ignorant on the topic of fashion, I have always been drawn to bygone aesthetics and much of the clothing I wear is based on, or at least stylistically inspired by, the Victorian era (I also have an interest in baroque and medieval north-western European clothing, which I sometimes attempt to recreate via Reconstructing History patterns, but having only basic sewing skills, often end in disaster).

    Good Afternoon Everyone

As you know, I am very new to VFG, so if I ask a silly question, please forgive me. Am I able to state on my Etsy shop front that I am a member of the VFG or is this not allowed? It probably does say somewhere, but I am still working my way round the site.

    Many thanks :)
