Found this pretty dress and am not sure what kind of fabric it is. Lightweight, crisp texture, shimmery, almost irridescent colors. Kind of like a taffeta.
I did a burn test to a piece I cut from inside and the fabric extinguished itself. Didn't seem to want to burn and left a black...
Thanks, everyone, for your help. I'll put VLV in the description then.
Sandra, I know about those repro wedgies. I had to buy a pair for dancing. You're right. They aren't cheap! Would have preferred to spend the money on vintage ones, but couldn't find my size.

Cool chart. Do you mind if I save a copy? I would love it for future reference.
You think they'd be good for VLV? That's great. I hadn't thought of that. Was thinking of maybe wearing for swing dancing.

Before I write a description for these beauties, wanted to make sure I had date correct. Are these 40s?(I hope) and what size would you say? They measure 10 1/2 long and 3 1/2 wide.
I've been searching for vintage red wedgies forever and it's killing me these are too big for me!!! Oh well...
Hollis, it's a good thing I can ask questions here, because I was way off. Hopefully I'll get this dating thing right one of these days! I also hope someone will want to buy these!!!
Thanks Theresa

Finally trying to do some work after getting totally sidetracked over the holidays! Anyway, these dresses/gowns came from an old dressmakers shop and have never been worn. Can someone tell me if they are 30s or 40s styles? As usual I'm confused! Two of them have belts that tie in back. They...
Here are just a few of the festive frocks I have available to really WOW them this holiday season!
40s Deep Coral/Pink Crepe Dress w/Flouncy Side Swag in a hard to find larger size.
50s Bombshell Mermaid Hem Halter Dress
50s Red Silk Chiffon Strapless Party dress...
At first I thought it was 80's. Then upon closer inspection I noticed pinked seams, metal zipper in back and on sleeve openings, tape on hem.
There are a couple of panels in the back of skirt that make it flair out at the hem, where you would usually see a kick pleat. I've shown a picture...
Can someone please help with dating these three pair of shoes? I'm guessing 50s on the green ones, but not sure on the others.
Thanks a bunch.

Thank you! Vinyl just didn't seem right. This almost has a papery feel to it, but the backing reminds me of the stuff that's behind those old oilcloth tablecloths. Now if I can just come up with some creative keywords to try and sell it!

Thought this funky metallic gold coat would be good for some type of Halloween costume. Don't ask me what, though.
Do I call this vinyl? It is thin and has a crinkly texture on the outside.
Thanks, Theresa

Duh! What was I thinking? You are totally right , Marie. It makes sense that it would button in back. The tag is in a side seam and there are no darts so I just threw it on the mannequin with the buttons in front. Thanks for pointing that out. I will retake my pictures.
Theresa
Not sure how to describe these dresses for a Halloween theme. What do they remind you of? Should I use goth, witch, wench? All of them?
Thanks

Alrighty then. 50's it is.
Hollis, now that you mention it, the shoes do look like there is some kind of straw attached to the mesh part. I never would have figured that out in a million years!
Thanks so much for the info. You guys are great!
Theresa
Can someone tell me if these shoes are from the 40s or 50s? They're a kind of mesh and some other type of material. But don't have a clue how to describe. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Thanks everyone! At least now I know I was close on the date. As far as the fabric, I'll just have to cover my a@@ by saying it could be either silk or a linen/rayon weave. Don't want to mislead anyone.
Now I'm off to attempt to write some kind of half decent description!

Irene Suit-40\'s? Plus Fabric ID
Want to try and get this suit listed before the end of the month. Can anyone confirm for me whether this is late 40's or not?
Plus need opinion on fabric. It has vertical and horizontal slubs. Lining is silk, so can I safely assume suit is also...
Thanks everyone for all your great suggestions. I've stuck this on my website for now. I'll see what happens. If it doesn't sell by the holidays, I'll try and get more exposure by putting it on Ebay. Am going to work on fitting all your good keywords into the description!
Theresa
Wish I had somewhere to wear this one!
Can anyone tell me if it's 50s or 60s? Has metal zipper and pinked seams.
Also, fabric feels medium to heavyweight, very fine horizontal rib with this shiny swirling design all over it. I am so bad at descriptions! Any ideas as to what to call it...
Hi
Got a couple of 30's dresses here and am wondering if anyone can help indentify the lace used?
Thanks

Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone. Mink it is, and 60s. So glad to hear fur is selling. This little stole and dress are both in perfect condition too. Looks like they were never worn.
Theresa
Okie, dokie. Here's more pix of the dress and a close up of stole. Is there a name for this shade of fur? Also, do these sell well?

Don't normally pick up furs, but this one was really pretty and looks quite glam with this dress. I was thinking it was mink. Can someone please confirm? And if so, what type of mink? Also, would you date dress as 60s? It's moire and has a back metal zipper and pinked seams. Thanks a bunch...
