    Mackintosh Contemporary

MacKintosh is hard to search because there is the generic term MacKintosh. From Britannica That said, there are a number of references to the brand in the 1980s (newspapers.com) which show a similar silhouette to your jacket. This is from 1986.

New items in the VFG Zazzle shop! (Nov 28, 2023)

There are some new items in our Zazzle shop, and right now all cards are 50% off with the code HOLIDAYFAVEZ The MO of Zazzle is that the shipping is expensive, but paying $9.95/year for Zazzle Black (I don't think there is such a thing for non-US people, but I'm not certain) is worth it even...

A question about how/if being a SAMPLE dress affects vintage pricing (not asking for valuation!)

Interestingly we had a Karen Alexander sample dress in our Fresh Vintage a few months ago: https://forums.vintagefashionguild.org/threads/fresh-vintage-july-29th-august-4th.74973/#post-735838 I wonder if Debbie @catseyevintage has insight into this?

    Fabric Friday: Tartan and plaid

You're right, the idea of clan tartan is rather modern—Georgian and Victorian Romanticism. I was definitely weaned on that Scottish romantic ideal which was having another moment in mid-20th century. My father keenly played up (actually, overemphasized) our family association with Scotland. His...

    Fabric Friday: Tartan and plaid

My papa, the piper I grew up with a father who was the pipe major of several bagpipe bands (and oh yes, I learned to play the pipes) and I very often heard that no plaid-patterned fabric that wasn’t a genuine tartan should ever be called a tartan. For those of you who didn’t have this drilled...

    Fabric Friday: Crepe

A little more about Whipped Cream. The name seems to have stuck even post-Dacron and it looks like it was applied to polyester/acetate blends and other combos. It was to be washed and dripped dry which seems to have been a big charm. It shouldn't be ironed because the emboss can flatten.

    Fabric Friday: Crepe

Whipped Cream! That was a Dacron polyester that was being given the marketing treatment for sure. This is from 1964 1965 '66 It is a crepe, although I would probably call it a crepe emboss. Thank you for mentioning the shrinkage problem—that is so true, and such a painfully learned...

    Fabric Friday: Crepe

Crepe is a texture, which is probably best described as grainy, puckered or crinkled.
