Summer Picnic - The VFG Fashion Parade for the week of July 19th

I gave this sundress to my friend's lovely 16 year old granddaughter a week ago. It was languishing in my closet - and she was thrilled! For a formal picnic I would pair it with this white glass jewelry - personal collection; except for the bracelet which I regret parting with!

Dating Identification Help On Vintage Chinese Purse Real Jade?

I'm seeing a cotton or silk faille, too - for the body of the purse but the decorative inserts might be hand woven -and look more like cotton to me. I have no idea about the origin. I don't see Chinese as much as maybe Thai or Indian. (Not my area of expertise.) I "doubt" that the clasp...

Weird label I cannot identify for the life of me

Moonchild, Instead of clicking on the "Reply" - write your response in the space below the last posting. When you click on Reply, it copies/quotes what the person who posted wrote. It looks '80s to me, too.

Walter Lampl - "Remember Pearl Harbor" Brooch - originally painted red, white and blue. The back is inscribed "For Aid to the Honolulu Community Chest". It was made in early 1942 . This is an image of how it looked originally: Uncas - Palm Trees and Birds - Personal Collection...

    Vintage linens anyone?

I never learned how to sew and never made anything from a vintage tablecloth or other vintage linens. The one in the photo is just on top of the duvet cover. I own a lot of vintage tablecloths and napkins, etc. etc.

    Vintage linens anyone?

Speaking of using vintage linens as a bedcover - this is my guest room: Close-up. The tablecloth has faded a bit since it landed there but I still enjoy it!

Dating a dress and information about label

Hi Lianne - I think your dress is from the 1980s and is what we call '80s does '50s. If you can let us know all the letters on the label - maybe "Dory"??? someone might recognize it. The label looks '80s to me.

    Women's Haberdashers Label

I would put it into the '70s because of the colors - and the collar. I did a quick search and found a reference to Women's Haberdashers on Madison Avenue. I have not been able to confirm this. I lived in NYC from 1970 -1972 and it sounds familiar but I'm not sure...

oooohhh, is this a vintage Cheonsang? What Era?

I do not see the traditional mandarin collar or the diagonal closure on the front in your photos. This image is from the book I mentioned "Shanghai Girl Gets All Dressed Up". There are definitely lots of "modern" versions of this traditional dress so I may be wrong in not calling it a...

oooohhh, is this a vintage Cheonsang? What Era?

I would not call the dress a Cheongsam - the construction is different, but it is certainly influenced by the classic cheongsam/qipao. There are a lot of interesting websites that discuss the cheongsam/qipao - here's Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheongsam I have a wonderful book...

Help With Dating Vintage Wedding Dress

Welcome to the VFG. I am not an expert on this era, but I think your dress is Edwardian (C.1900 - 1910.) I think it's an afternoon summer dress, not a vintage wedding dress. Let's see what others think about the way you have it displayed. I think photo #7 that shows the yellow embroidery...

    Cushion triple.

Welcome to the VFG. What an intriguing question. They all appear 20C. to me. The floral pattered one on the far right looks like it is from the 1960s or early 1970s. It's difficult to see the other two clearly. Could you take a photo in natural light of the other two and we can try to help...

Is this a flapper necklace or later repro?

From what you have shown, I would date this C. 1920s. I think the bead looks like it could be Bakelite. If you have a way to test the bead - test it. If not rub the bead until it is warm and then "sniff" it - if has a "chemical" smell, it is Bakelite. I am not sure if your last photo is...
