I made some "18th century" pockets and I'm thinking they need to come back into style.
A bit of history, plus easy tutorial in the post.

Hi! I have 20 of these, which you'd think would be enough, right? Turns out, I need about 25, maybe 30. I kept losing count. Here, you try. Don't forget the sleeves:
Making this 1876 dress from the original pattern. Well, mom's going to try, anyway.
I could just buy a big pack of some other...
What's more fun than finally meeting an online VFG friend IRL?
While my family was in Colonial Williamsburg, Bonnie (MyVintageClothesline) drove all the way from her home 45 minutes away just to spend a few minutes with me.
I took her on a tour of the little 1750s house we were staying in (see...
Lizzie (a.k.a. The Vintage Traveler), a couple of my Atlanta Time Traveler friends, and I headed to Asheville, North Carolina, to see the latest exhibit at Biltmore Estate.
Here's my take on it...
Menswear experts, what's your best guess on when this photo was taken? It's a friend's family member. I've asked him to remove the mat for a fuller view, but you may not need it. Thanks.
My latest blog post. It's about historical costuming, sort of:

I'm finally getting around to posting my various projects. This one was particularly satisfying and I provide a complete tutorial (I hope it's easy to follow, let me know if anything is unclear!).

Just a little project (that took WAY longer than it should have):

Hello! My mom knitted me this sweater/jumper from an original 1947 pattern. As you can see in the photo, the shoulders should have that typical poof at the top. And you can see on the sweater itself that there is shaping to encourage that silhouette.
But as worn, it's not puffy at all. Kind of...
Here's a quick&easy tutorial for making a carrying bag from a pillowcase. I use it for my hoop petticoat, but you could really use it for just about anything.

Hi, everyone! Here's a blog post about my recent visit to the Georgia Museum of Art to see an exhibit of WWI posters. I love blog comments, so feel free to voice your opinion there! All comments are approved (even the negative ones, lol)...

My latest blog post recounts my recent visit, with Lizzie (The Vintage Traveler) and my mom, to the Pierre Cardin exhibit at SCADFash, here in Atlanta.

Comments are the blog...
My friend just told me that Gayle's film (as I call it, because really, it's all about the costumes, isn't it?) is now available on Amazon Prime streaming video in the U.S. My plan is to binge watch ASAP!

Ok, I'm stumped.
Anyone know how to attach both ends of a sash or belt to a buckle with only one central pin with teeth, without hiding either side edge of the buckle?
Clearly, it can be done, as this is a very common style of antique buckle. But until I figure it out, I can't wear mine.

Hi!
I visited the Guo Pei: Couture Beyond exhibit at Atlanta's own SCADFash museum last weekend.
Come read about it and (pretty please) leave any comment on the blog itself, if you would be so kind!
Thank you...

All of these purchases I made from VFG Trade Members saw good use in 2016:
I bought this black silk 20s dress from Maggie (DeniseBrainVtg) a while back and have worn it before. This time it went with me to "The Fashionable Past" 20s-60s clothing exhibit at Atlanta History Center's Swan House...
Latest blog post outlines how I cobbled together a passable costume for a Jane Austen event:

Hi - Found these beauties recently.
Here's what I know:
All silk, including the velvet ribbon
Cotton or possibly silk/cotton lace.
All embroidery is wool.
Filled with sand (perhaps the emery variety that sharpens pins) possibly mixed with straw.
Very large and very heavy, as you can see...
In case you haven't seen this:

Definitely not vintage -- the artist herself barely qualifies! -- but fascinating and definitely worth seeing if you have an interest in fashion. Many of the designs called to mind the amazing construction of Charles James.
