Hi Mary, Linda & Nicole,
Lovely to 'meet' you all.
If anyone has a real life vintage shop I would love to know what the best hangers are for displaying clothing? LOL in fact I have several questions so I'll start a new thread I think.........
I've been collecting for about 3+ yrs now, I have 2 mannequins (Camila & Mary) and am just about to open a high street vintage shop! aggg scary! LOL :wow: Sharon xx

Hello to you all-Im Laura and from sunny(ahem) east anglia.Im a lover of all vintage (in particular the 1950s),I go to many rock and roll weekenders, collect clothes, handbags & shoes and it is very much a way of life to me!

I am looking to make clothes from vintage patterns so I may need some assistance on the way as I`m definatley not a "natural" with a needle and cotton!
Hope to meet some lovely new people here and discuss the oh-so-important things! :hiya:

Hi there, Laura,, and welcome to the VFG!

I've gotten intrigued myself by the possibilities of sewing from vintage patterns (especially since the longer I collect vintage, the more hesitant I am to subject it to actual/frequent wear). I don't sew at ALL at this point, though my husband has promised to teach me, and bit by bit we've been setting up a nook in the basement for me to work at.

In the meantime, I found a seamstress who does vintage alterations and makes theatrical and period costumes as well as custom clothes--she made me the coolest pair of denim overalls from a 40s pattern!

Welcome, Laura -

And Carrie - how fun to have '40's denim overalls (from an original pattern! I don't sew at all either but I do like to wear my vintage clothes. Some of them are more fragile than others so I am very careful.

I found a wonderful seamstress who is actually a fashion design graduate, custom tailor and dressmaker, but she has vanished (I hope temporarily) so I am looking for someone. How wonderful that you are going to learn to sew.

Linn

Thank you all for welcoming me! I am going to purchase a sewing machine in the next week or so and hopefully my mother will teach me a few tips and tricks as sadly I didnt have any textile/sewing teaching when I was in school (only 4 years ago!)

Hope you are all enjoying this bank holiday

Laura x
