Clearing our Grandmother's vintage/antique hoard!

Hi all, I've had "real work" to contend with for a few days so had to pause the hoard sort. But back today and a few cute finds! Nice little polka dotty prom dress, v smart wool mini dress by David Silverman, an old school Italian men's dressing gown and a little wax and silk thread thingy that I think is a sort of tiara-esque head piece.

Honestly, I would not spend much of your precious time on gloves - they are a fairly rough sale, unless they are large, fingerless, gauntlet or otherwise rare. I collect them, if I find them cheap, but they only really sell around Christmas or if they are insane. And, if you put them in a "lot" sale, you won't need to put all that effort in.

That's good to know, thank you! We have a few nice pairs that I'll research but will take your advice on the rest!

Today was Cape Day, currently playing, are you still smelly, with the green corduroy number and trying to work out what the pale blue one (and a matching cream) are! Also found this leather box of collars and a very odd Bavarian blazer that I kinda love but is sadly too small for me

Yes, these were all in a wardrobe that didn't get directly wet, and aside from a few pieces that were moth damaged have escaped with merely a waft of fustiness. Spent today washing everything, or airing aggressively where delicate/not washable and will revisit in a few days to sort charity/boot/saleable items out

I think the short capes are nylon, they have no labels aside from a "dry clean only" instructio but are definitely a shiny satin-looking plastic fibre.

Does anyone here know what the significance of a "Mascot" dress is? I was working through the silks and doing my usual Googling/label resourcing the labels and the prices on things labelled Mascot seems absurd! It's a very nice pure silk dress to be sure but I can't find any info on what a mascot dress is, or what qualifies one as such. Would love to know some background on the style if anyone has a lead?

Fav finds so far today, a lovely (80s I think) Jean Muir dress, a very diddy gothy 80s(?) Prom dress, no tags but will make a lil teen somewhere v happy I expect!

Probably a really stupid question... But how would one wear this cape, it has a belt and loops but only one slit and assuming you're not supposed to strap your arms down

Fabulous! I think the belt does up on the inside of the cape only wrapped around the waist. That Indian silk maxi dress should do very well, these maxi silk dresses can get very good money.

Love the Jean Muir, it's really nice with the print, most of the Jean Muir's I have had were solid colours.

Thank you! Will have a go belting it inside. And yes, did lots of reading about Jean Muir yesterday and seems prints and colours were not her fav (though she did them well too!) Nice to learn about her!

Following advice, tonight I'm sorting gloves mostly for job lots but have picked out a few pairs to research out of curiosity, one pair has half an essay written inside it!

We really should have a Fred Perry entry in the label resource - it's an iconic British brand - although with some terrible associations at times. Complicated. Note to @Ranch Queen Vintage

I think the Fred Perry Sports wear dress with the flowers might be 70s... but I don't really know my sportswear. It's that fabric content label looks 1970s to me. Are the appliqué flowers original?
