Clearing our Grandmother's vintage/antique hoard!

Does anyone here know what the significance of a "Mascot" dress is? I was working through the silks and doing my usual Googling/label resourcing the labels and the prices on things labelled Mascot seems absurd!
Some Made In India 70s hippy stuff does go very high - or it did. I'm not familiar with the Mascot brand in particular, but perhaps it's like Anokhi and Phool, one of the known brands that did that kind of thing. Your dress looks like it might have been made from old saris. But remember that a price listed isn't necessarily a price achieved.

We really should have a Fred Perry entry in the label resource - it's an iconic British brand - although with some terrible associations at times. Complicated. Note to @Ranch Queen Vintage

I think the Fred Perry Sports wear dress with the flowers might be 70s... but I don't really know my sportswear. It's that fabric content label looks 1970s to me. Are the appliqué flowers original?

Yep it has the washing symbols so late 60s at earliest - happy to get the labels properly photographed and added in for the resource.

I've found a ref to Mascot in the same breath as Anokhi, but yes, our priority is to rehome things promptly so wont be shooting for the heady (delusional I suspect) heights of some of the items!

We are all delighted you are sharing these images with us.
Thanks Amanda! I'm glad it's fun for you too, I'm so grateful for all the insights, it's really made the whole endeavour so much less overwhelming. Even the obscene volume of jewellery we haven't yet touched is not terrifying me as much as it was! We have two full suitcases and this novelty watering can (a foot tall) completely full of jewellery. Suspect the vast majority is crap but sorting it *shakes in alarm* :D

New weekend, new hoard work. We're going to our first boot fair this weekend which will. E interesting. Taking the more modern/lightly damaged bits to East London.

Found this bag in another bag, I'm thinking it's more modern, copying 20s beading? Its quite stained under the beading sadly

Morning! Sorted out a few of the brooches I think are earlier than 60s (most have the rollover safety clasp), these all have c fastenings (except the Breton) which has a trombone, early looking round hinges and long pins so thinking they're probs 20s to 50s?

Other yesterday finds, cute Betty Barclay silk shell with a striped belt back and a mad silk peplum floral. Both 80s I think.

This brooch lady? Or the Betty Barclay Blouse? Its dark green but the light is bad

Also found this two headed eagle number in the lining of a leather holdall which has the older tube hinge! Feel like I'm learning a lot about brooches today

sorry, I meant the top/blouse, rather than the pin. those laundering instructions do lean it younger than older, the cut of the blouse and that interesting neckline had me thinking it was older. very neat, though!

Thanks Mary!

Limited in-hoard time this weekend as we did our first boot fair. Very successful on the tchotchkes and inexpensive bags front. Clothes were slower, I think a more bargain focussed crowd so we'll stick to online for our nice bits. need to focus on finding a new home this week (or I won't be able to store the hats!) Did bring home a stack of margarine tubs full of necklaces for a little side project though. Nothing particularly old I don't think but they sure are shiny!

I wonder if anyone knows what this weird lil pin might be? It has three sharp teeth, but the hinge isn't sprung?

Looks like a dress clip, circa 1930s.

Some of the necklaces look “older” to me, maybe 1950s-60s? The multi strand black beads: what does the other side of the clasp look like? Glass beads, or plastic? If they are glass, that’s a nice one!
Ooh thank you! I can research better now.

The black multistrand is glass beads, clasp as below. I think the only one of all of them that's plastic is the pink pearl one. The green one is actual rocks as far as I can tell! They're mostly blooming heavy!

I see some very nice necklaces in the photos...a few in the top photo look like they may be a little older as in 40s to me.
Some of the very long ones in the other photos could possibly be 20s or early 30s. If they are glass strung on cord they might be that old.
It's very difficult to know for sure without handling them.

I do agree with Amy above about 50s and 60s ones too.

The dress clip I don't feel would be worth much due to the missing rhinestones.

@poppysvintageclothing Yes I the dress clip is quite damaged, but being a nerd I'm almost more interested in knowing what stuff is Vs if we can sell it (I got very excited to find a Cc41 label in a foxfur this morning!). I have a small collection (pic) of broken/unpaired/bent stuff that I'm sure will only grow. Its almost like storing jewellery knitted together in a suitcase is bad for it!

@Retro Ruth The pink pearls does have a Hong Kong stamp on the clasp! Pretty sure the cream is bone, has that sort of texture at least.

Green beads are definitely some sort of stone, v irregular. Several of the necklaces are glass on thread. A couple of them have spring clasps though, those pictured below have barrel/box/pinchy pin ones. My favourite is the glass and tiny chain long one, it's just so pretty
