Hi all. I’m kinda new to the vintage community but excited to explore and learn more x
Welcome Maria! We're happy you joined us!

Hi everone! I'm so pleased to have found you in this little corner of the internet. I've been a textile and fashion enthusiast all my life and have a great appreciation for the art and craft of garment making. I'm a professional Home Economist and, as I near retirement, am just getting into the world of reselling. After dipping my toes in and doing some sourcing, I can see that I'm drawn to unique, well made pieces. Not finding much vintage yet, but I found you and that's a good start and a definite bonus!

Vintage jalopy

Hey everyone! My name is Natalie and I’m just starting up an online store (Knatty Thrifts). I have been collecting vintage clothing for about 20 years now, but I am only just starting to learn about the different designers, labels, and fabrics. I currently have about 50 pieces in my ever growing collection!
I learned to thrift from my mom at a young age, and have such an appreciation for everything vintage! I wore vintage dresses to both my graduation and wedding (1950s/1970s respectively). I paid a fraction of the cost that most people pay for modern dresses for both and many people told me they had never seen such unique and beautiful dresses. That’s what I love about vintage!
In the past year I have been casually buying and selling vintage pieces and learning as I go. Honestly, I do it because I learn something new with every piece and I especially love it if they come with a story. This website has been a great resource for me and I am so happy I joined!
I have attached a picture of me in my latest favourite addition to my collection. If anyone has info on this piece I would love to learn more!

Welcome Natalie!! You're definitely in the right place! That is a beautiful dress, it looks 70's to me and the label, which I have seen before usually has a CA number indicating that is it a Canadian company. When I looked up CA00184, seen on other Algo-Ette's labels, it matched!

Some company history HERE-- "Algo Group Inc. was founded in 1942 by two brothers, Joseph and Ben Schaffer, whose family had emigrated from Poland to Montreal, Canada, in the 1930s when the brothers were children. By the 1940s Montreal had become the center of a burgeoning Canadian fashion industry and, searching for a business venture, the young Schaffer brothers rented a small office on Peel Street in downtown Montreal and began to manufacture ladies' dresses designed to sell for under C$10. The Schaffer brothers' business prospered, and soon they were able to move the company's headquarters to Chabanel Street in the heart of Montreal's famous garment district.

Over the next two decades, Algo became a leading Canadian manufacturer of moderate to higher-priced ladies' dresses and related apparel. Algo's dresses, produced by the company's Algo and Lori Ann divisions, appeared at major social occasions across Canada. As the emphasis in the fashion industry moved towards less formal apparel, Algo entered the ladies' sportswear and casual wear segments with the opening of a number of new divisions."

Wow, thank you so much!! I didn’t anticipate someone would be able to find so much info on the dress so I am very happy I posted the pic here! Such a warm welcoming, I love it here already!

Hi Natalie! What a lovely dress. I’d also love to see the wedding dress. Welcome to the VFG
Diana
The best pictures I have are screenshots from the eBay listing 10 years ago when I purchased it. I don’t have a picture of the tag as right now the dress is in storage, but I will try to get a pic of that later :)

Hello. I am a 77 year old Aries lady. I have always loved dressing up, buying vintage clothing, and making my own clothes when I can. I'm fascinated with Architecture. It's a lot like clothing ! Idea, materials, and creativity. I love animals, astrology, poetry, and Nature. I was born in Maryland, but I live in the Mohave high desert now. I like to draw cartoons, and need ideas for unusual togs. I hope I can contribute in helpful ways.
