Thank you!
If I recall correctly, this was the original format, back when I created the group. What FB did since then made no sense for us, so it's definitely a good idea to switch back.
Over-the-top fun!
Here's an iconic 80s dress with seriously big shoulder pads (easily removed, if you prefer):
This 40s/50s patio dress set is light as air, with a super-full, more-than-a-circle skirt (fun bonus, it appeared - on me - in Season 1, Episode 6 of the super-hero series "Doom...
You can "get away" with wearing whatever you like! Especially when it's for fun and "playing dressup." Who, in their right mind, and that matters one jot, is judging you?
Actually, you don't seem to get it, no. I didn't sell anything to Amazon. I sold to a production company. To the wardrobe department. The production company
is not a charitable organization and does not owe us anything. Their not immediately offering their product free of charge does not make...
That's capitalism (run amok or otherwise), not fascism. I suspect that more and more outfits will stop offering DVDs (not true that they all do now, btw), which are already outmoded, and offer only streaming options. FYI, you don't have to subscribe to Amazon Prime or join any political party to...

I think that, in a nutshell, is the appeal and the motivation behind the love of all things vintage!
I made some "18th century" pockets and I'm thinking they need to come back into style.
A bit of history, plus easy tutorial in the post.
Thanks for reading and leaving a comment on the blog!

That's what we suspected, but honestly, we won't know until we look closely at the pattern pieces. I saw no pattern piece for the shawl-like thingy (not a big deal, I guess).
LOL. She's definitely got mad skills but...
#1. My mom hates doing any sort of repairs. Only does it grudgingly. I rarely ask. She also doesn't finish stuff. I don't think she's ever made me anything 100% complete. She says ,"OK, it's done. Your turn." and she hands me something unhemmed...
Hi Maggie -- Yes, I've seen the 1 pack, and a few others on eBay. Just checking here before jumping on those. I've got time, as mom was entirely freaked out by the project and is unlikely to begin, if ever, in the immediate future.
Even with her sewing expertise, the 19th century instructions...
Hi! I have 20 of these, which you'd think would be enough, right? Turns out, I need about 25, maybe 30. I kept losing count. Here, you try. Don't forget the sleeves:
Making this 1876 dress from the original pattern. Well, mom's going to try, anyway.
I could just buy a big pack of some other...
If you have a subscription and don't mind stealing the occasional article, you can take screenshots to share privately, such as here. I have a subscription (or DH does, I think. WAPO, too). it's similar, if done only occasionally and not in a haphazard manner, to claiming/grabbing an abandoned...
What's more fun than finally meeting an online VFG friend IRL?
While my family was in Colonial Williamsburg, Bonnie (MyVintageClothesline) drove all the way from her home 45 minutes away just to spend a few minutes with me.
I took her on a tour of the little 1750s house we were staying in (see...
Lizzie (a.k.a. The Vintage Traveler), a couple of my Atlanta Time Traveler friends, and I headed to Asheville, North Carolina, to see the latest exhibit at Biltmore Estate.
Here's my take on it...
Menswear experts, what's your best guess on when this photo was taken? It's a friend's family member. I've asked him to remove the mat for a fuller view, but you may not need it. Thanks.
My latest blog post. It's about historical costuming, sort of:

I promise you, I can't really sew. You can do this! I have minimal and marginal skills. I'm afraid of my sewing machine.
It's similar to my relationship with sports (except that I don't care about sports). Yeah, I get what I'm supposed to do, more or less, but I'm certainly not highly skilled...
I'm finally getting around to posting my various projects. This one was particularly satisfying and I provide a complete tutorial (I hope it's easy to follow, let me know if anything is unclear!).

Thank, 196t's. It shouldn't have been a lot of effort. It should've been quick and easy. I was just being exceptionally dysfunctional that day. My mom was over for a visit, so I'll blame her for distracting me! We laughed a lot, so that helped : ).
Just a little project (that took WAY longer than it should have):

Yes, Hollis, that's what I was thinking of. As it is, I used old rayon pads taken from some dead vintage thing, covered them to be less ugly, and put them in the sleeve only, attached at the seam as you describe. It doesn't raise the shoulder line. But what I wish I had (or knew how to make -...
Done as it's gonna get. One side looks smoother on the exterior than the other does, but I'm sick of it so it'll do.
Already moved on to next project. Mom hates finishing stuff so she makes the pieces and I have to put it together.
