Welcome Mojito. I have a surprising number of customers from Australia. Do I understand that is where you are living now? Where did you live in the US when you were here? There are quite a few members who really "know" Victorian and Edwardian fashion and I have asked them many questions. You will NOT get swatted on the head for asking any question. Amanda

Hello Everyone!

I'm Kat and not exactly a newbie, I have been a member of the VFG since the very begining but have really only posted on the Trade Member forums. I'm trying to broaden my horizons and will try to post here on the Public Forums as well.

It's so nice to see so many new faces and to hear about your love of vintage.

My love of vintage started many years ago when I would visit historic houses in the city I grew up in ( Beverly Mass )
Often time the houses would have closets full of authentic clothing and accesories from the 1800s and I was just fasinated by them all.
I actually started collecting antique and vintage clothing when I started going to a local auction house and they had boxes of amazing stuff going for practicaly nothing (not the case nowadays).
When my closets started getting too full I saw ebay as an opportunity to sell some and collect some.

As I said I have been a member here since the very begining and am very proud of how the VFG has evolved to be a primary source of accurate information on vintage clothing for a world wide audience.
The people here are incredibly knowledgable and amazingly helpful and friendly to boot!

I look forward to meeting all of you and sharing our vintage finds and hopefully helping with a question or two as well as having a few questions myself.

Kat

Thank you for the welcomes!

I am based back in Oz again, Amanda - working at a Museum. Prior to that I was in London for nearly five years. I lived in New York for three years back when I was a kiddie-winkie, and have popped over there quite a few times since to visit.

I love the access to US and UK dealers that the internet enables! There are some excellent Oz vintage dealers that I patronise (it's a bit of a luxury for me to be able to physically examine clothes pre-purchase - so many of my purchases are from photographs and descriptions), but I've had such great experiences buying at auction or from online shops.

Hi, glad to have come aboard, looking forward to learning more from the pros, and spiffing up my auctions.
I come from a family of collectors, both antiques and fine junque.I have loved vintage clothing, textiles, jewels, and"ladie's stuff" for many years, and now it is time to let some things go so others can enjoy.I celebrate the art and fun of wearing vintage clothing !!

Hey guys,

Newbie to the forums here. I'm a student at the University of Chicago, been collecting for a long time, but only recently became interested in vintage clothing. I recently joined up with some friends here on campus and built a community site for collectors like us. We just launched our Vintage/Collectible Clothing category, so I'm excited. Looking forward to talking with you all.

Hi there,

Greetings from London. Welcome. I checked your website but couldn't get into your Vintage Clothing Category but some of your other stuff looked interesting. Anyone else having the same problem?

Margaret, Chelsealace.

Same problem Margaret - I didn't even see the vintage clothing category... but I'll try again. Anyway - Welcome!

Ah Chicago.... It was the 60's ... I was at Beloit College... and I came in to see Jimi Hendrix perform. It was a small performing space - inside a building somewhere - and I swooned when he started "Foxie Lady." Ah Chicago :-) (This sounds like my mother recalling the great days of the charleston... oh my.) Amanda

Hello from another Montrealer! :)

OK, when I go back to Montreal in the summer, we are REALLY going to have to do a VFG get together for the Montrealers :D

For my website, I do free shipping within the UK and then for the rest of the world, I do a flat shipping rate based on weight bands.
As long as I don't go over 2 kilos for small packet, I am able to work out the weight bands in increments and also put the weight in grams for each product on the ordering page, so that the customer knows how much in advance shipping is going to be from the UK which can be expensive due to the strong £.

For anything over 2 kilos, I just put "price to be advised" as things that weight that much can only go by Parcelforce which is REALLY expensive.

It's true though that having the shipping listed does help with those impulse purchses.

Lei

:hiya: I was just referred to this site and it is great. I only have a few vintage pieces, but I inherited a few dresses from my mom who just passed away and hope to find out how to clean and take care of them. If anyone can suggest someone in NJ or lower NY state that might help me learn what to do,or not do, that would be great~
