My retro-rani email was getting so much spam I switched it off, sorry!

I'll have to put some filters on it or whatever it is you do and get it going again for when I start ebaying again.

Wonderful to see you Anna!! I must say I WASN'T thinking about you just before you checked in :BAGUSE: but ever since I read your "hello" yesterday I have!

Your photos are more outstanding than ever!

Hi Mary, nice to meet you too :)

I was with the VFG from right at the beginning and I have made some wonderful friends on here, even met up with a few members, Carolyn included.

A better group of people you could not wish to meet.

WOW! Poppy is looking so grown up! I remember when she was born - it doesn't seem that long ago.

Welcome back!

Hello everyone!

I guess as far as the vintage game goes I am pretty new. I dont know much about vintage fashions but I am very obsessed with vintage t shirts. T shirts that mark events, concerts, sports. This has led me to start my online shop recently.

www.tinypony.com

I would really like to hear what the vintage community thinks of it

thanks!

I'm almost terrified about finally registering here! I look around and see all the awesome sellers that I've bought from or at least haunted their websites for ages... It's sorta intimidating to find out so many of you are on this forum.

I have to say I think the VFG is one of the best things that ever happened to someone who loves to buy vintage like I do! Such class and style. I really do appreciate all the VFG members, and the fact that it exists at all. I've not just been buying from you, but using your resources and trying to learn alongside you.

So, other than grateful and curious, who am I? I buy and wear vintage for regular life. I think the 30s styles look best on my figure, but I love the drama of the 40s, and I adore Tiki and Lounge culture too. I sew a bit, and so the first vintage purchases I made were mostly patterns. I like to make kooky Science Fiction and Fantasy costumes as a hobby, and sometimes vintage works its way into those too. I have a crazy passion for James Cagney, Myrna Loy is my style icon, and I think Ginger Rogers walked (I guess danced would be a better word) on water... Fred wasn't bad either. I shake my fist in frustration at how difficult it can be to ship to me in Canada from the US, but I persevere since there just weren't enough women of style and means living in my corner of the world in the Golden Age to keep me in local old clothing. :)

I am already spread too thin between SF/F fandom, blogs, vintage websites and real life to be able to post here much. But now I've registered and put down some roots. I expect to do a lot of lurking and to ask the occasional clueless question (for which I apologise in advance!).

Jen

Delighted to see you here! Myrna Loy is one of the stars in my heavens too. I second Lizzie's post...please bring up anything that interests or haunts you!

Jen, I'm a fan already! :hiya: You introduced yourself so beautifully.

Claudette Colbert was fabulous - the best Cleopatra IMHO, judging from the stills at any rate. And I read in a book by the Hollywood photographer John Engstead about her skills as a seamstress. She had a wool suit by Hattie Carnegie that had horsehair in it. She had told them she was allergic to it and was furious. So she took it completely apart and sewed it all back together - without the offending horsehair - overnight! According to Engstead "I saw the suit later and I don't think Hattie Carnegie could have done better." A suitable heroine for vintage fiends (and home sewers)!
