I LOVE THIS SITE!!! I was soooo happy to find you...I am obviously new to this forum. My brother and I recently (mid-October) started a vintage and retro online shop called www.funksauce.com
We're a mid-20 and mid-30 something who fell in love with the 70's styles, and as we progress that decade will probably be the bulk of our merchandise. We are still very wet behind the ears and have a lot of decade dating to do and other things to work out as they slap us in the face, but we've only just begun to have fun and will get even better at this with your site as a resource! I'm very excited to learn! Chris

New member

My name is Kristen Miller Zohn and I am the Curator of Collections and Exhibitions at the Columbus Museum in Columbus, Georgia. I do not have a specialty in costume history, and the Museum has quite a few garments in our collection. Your site was recommended to me by a vintage clothing dealer, who I had called to ask for information about 2 wedding dresses that are being offered to us. My next post will be to ask for information from this group. Thank you for allowing me to be a member.

Hi everyone, just wanted to leave a note to say Hi and introduce myself. I've been running my Vintage business for a few years now, but have only just belatedly got round to joining this forum!!
I'm based in London specialising in Vintage from the 20's through to 70's, particularly dresses and bags and have finally set up my own website, after using ebay for ages....

Anyway have already lost a good hour reading all the info in the forums, so can see this will be a regular excuse to take time off from ploughing through my web updates!!

I can't believe I've only just noticed this thread. I've been lurking around here for ages and asking the odd daft question without even having the good grace to introduce myself. How rude!

I'm Sarah and I've been unhealthily obsessed with vintage clothing since my mum gave me some old film magazines when I was little...I'd never seen anyone as beautiful as Hedy Lamarr in real life and it set me off on a glamour trip that's still ongoing. In fact, 30 years on, I've *still* never seen anyone as beautiful as Hedy Lamarr!

I've been buying and wearing vintage for many years, mainly 50s as that seems to be what suits my shape. (How I'd love to be able to wear a 60s shift without looking like I might be about to go into labour underneath it!) It's the old story of 'either stop buying or start selling' for me, so I now have a small B&M shop...hmmm, that's an overstatement, it's more of a corridor...but I love it. My OH and I also sell a few bits of menswear on ebay (as sarah-jane again).

My shop has been open for just over a year now, and I'm plucking up the courage to fill in a VFG membership form! However, I have another business to run and a baby girl to look after, so sometimes it takes weeks for a job to move up my 'to do' list. I need more hours in the day. Or a cloning machine. Or both.

I have much to learn, and thanks to all of you for making the learning such fun.

Sarah (another UK-er!)

Welcome Everyone - always great to meet people who love vintage. Kristen, this is an excellent place to come with your questions. Gloria - if you have any specific questions - ask away. Brenda - wow to your scarves. I LOVE silk scarves too and have @ 40 vintage souvenir scarves. They don't fetch much on eBay for the most part. I always thought it would be nice to have them displayed on a wall. Chris - good luck with your site.

Hi. I just signed in. My name is Tania and I am Luketania's Vintage on eBay. I think some here might know me from over there. I sell vintage clothing and have been for like 8 or so years? maybe longer. I am Panamanian and live in the US with my american husband and have a 3 year old baby names Isabel. Most my items are 50's I guess, but I am more atracted to good design than to earas, so you'll see me having items from whatever era, just as long as the item is high design.

New but here with a purpose

I actually joined with a purpose in mind and that is I have three vintage items to sell but don't want to go through ebay with them because I'd rather see them offered to a community of people who are really enthusiastic and dedicated rather than just to get rid of them. They have sentimental value too, two of them belonged to my mother and one to my father. These were the best pieces I kept from their closet after they died. My mom was a real clothes hound and my dad a snappy dresser but I just couldn't bear to let these items go sit in a good will pile. They are just too nice (and I know they were expensive when purchased). I would wear them myself but my mother was a size 6 (5'2" and 105 pounds) and I'm nowhere near as petite and never will be. These items have been bagged and preserved, are in flawless/like new condition. No stains, tears or holes.

1. A firehouse red, lightweight wool suit with real (dyed black) fox fur trim around collar, down front and around cuffs. Tag says Nolan Miller. Size 6. Lined in acetate. Jacket is short without pockets and has lightly padded shoulders. Skirt has back zipper closure and vent. Below knee. This is an outfit that Jackie Kennedy or Nancy Regan would have worn. I have no idea what to ask for it. Will take best offer.

2. Very dramatic and heavy black wool coat with black fur trim on collar and cuffs. I honestly cannot tell if the fur is real or faux but if it's fake then the quality is extremely high. There are no tags on the inside except the label "Mademoiselle" and an aflcio union label. It is fully lined, the collar is completely fur covered and has a single button at the neck. The rest drapes down in a swing style. It's the kind of coat Grace Kelly or Audry Hepburn would wear in a movie with long gloves and a tight skirt. No vent in back. Side slit pockets. No size on this one but probably would fit anyone under size 12.

3. A men's tan camel hair coat. Tag says Bernard Altmann, size 44. Leather covered buttons and fully lined, the sleeves in what looks like acetate and the body in the same kind of low nap fur you find on the collar. My dad was a tall man, 6'1 and this would fit someone of that size, four buttons down the front. It's a coat for an east coast attorney in the late 50s.

I can send pictures to anyone who asks. Just write me directly at [email protected] with the subject line "vintage" and I'll respond immediately. Again, I have no idea what to ask for these items--I think I really just want them to go to someone who would appreciate them most. I won't give them away, but I just know there's a person out there who will need them and make good use of them. These are the kind of pieces that it's difficult to follow a pattern for and the quality of workmanship and materials are an extremely rare find.

Thanks for letting me post here!!

Sincerely,
::tori orr
