I'm new here. I am a 17 year old boy from Norway. I've always been fascinated by old clothes and stuff. There is something special about it. I think that the quality was better before. Now it's just mass production of things. Vintage silk scarves interested me most of all. I use silk scarf every day with a shirt.

My English is poor, hope you can tolerate some bad English.

Welcome Max! It sounds like you have a strong sense of style. I agree with you completely about the higher quality of most vintage clothing as it compares to most modern clothes.

Hi Everybody!
I'm Janelly of JanellyArts on Etsy. I just found this group and started reading through the backlogs of articles and the Q and A board. What an amazing resource. I'm halfway to my 100 reviews necessary for membership, but until then I'll be eagerly reading and probably posting a few items that have me totally stumped.

Time to introduce myself formally, I guess. lol

I have been putting vintage on my back since the early 1970s. Got my first job at a deli when I was 13 and pretty much took the paychecks over to the thrift store at the end of the block. Bought a lot of 40s then. My mom was a shopaholic so I learned about clothing from her... I Magnin, Joseph Magnin... and she had things sewn for her so I was around a lot of fabrics and finishings. I also began sewing at 13 (4H club!) and got really familiar with those elements hands on.

Since college (late 70s) I've sold vintage to supplement my income, as well as worn it. The great thing about it is I'm always learning something new. You NEVER know everything in this biz.

What's interesting about me is I'm not a hoarder. Wear it for a while, save little, sell much of it. ha ha

Not new, registered long ago, but happy to be a part of different forums. I'm reactivating because although I've been selling vintage for 7 years or so, I've been attached to sites that no longer serve me in a positive way....sooooo, this week I worked and started my own site. Will be phasing out of the other venues, and will be transferring my inventory to my own site.

Time to get serious and this is one of the best places to do it. Love the research information that is here, and often use the label site, as well as submit labels from time to time.

I will (along with my partner is this store) keep my Hawaiian store on Ebay.

Please forgive me for posting first in the forum before introducing myself. Please allow me to do so now.

My name is Caryn. I have specialized in buying and selling furs on ebay since June of 2005. I have an aunt who has been selling furs since I was a kid and I picked it up after discovering I had a great understanding of the fur industry myself.

Often, when searching for furs people would often ask me if I was interested in vintage clothing. I used to say no until I started becoming fascinated by vintage clothing that I saw other sellers offering when I looked at their furs. I have been buying and selling vintage clothing for a little over a year now.

When talking to my mom by phone she used to tell me me to just stick to my furs because she knew I made money with the furs but I think she has given up now because she knows I really love the vintage clothing and that this is what I am happy doing.

Anyways, I am really happy to be here and to have this wonderful environment and site to learn from.

Thank you all and nice to meet you, Caryn

Hello!

I just registered and I wanted to take the time to introduce myself. My pet name is Bear, please feel free to call me by said pet name.

I started collecting 1930s - 1960s fashions at the age of fourteen. I was raised in a traditional family, early in life I was taught to appreciate history. I learned the art of dressing quite conservatively, yet feminine and fashionable. My love for vintage began at a very early age as my grandmother was a fan of classic films. The images of smartly, strikingly well dressed women danced in my mind.

I purchased my first vintage 1940s dress on Ebay from that day I was hooked. I'm now 25 years young and I continue to expand my collection to this day.

I'm very happy to have registered on this forum as the collective expertise on this website is astounding! I feel at home in a place where vintage is worn, collected, treasured and appreciated. I'm no expert but I do have a keen eye for what I want and what will suit me.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all. Thank you in advance to those experts who take the time to educate vintage lovers as myself.

Thank you for being so welcoming Mary Jane! I will definitely post some pics of my vintage goodies today or tomorrow. Love to share my finds with people who appreciate them, that do not consider them over the top or old.

Looking forward to seeing the pics, please make sure they are no larger than 500 pixels wide.

The easiest way to post is to click on the yellow icon above the 4th one in from the right. Click and enter the URL link from your photo host and then just press enter.

Using this method you can post more than one photo per post, it's best to not post more than 4 or 5 photos at a time.

These are one of my most treasured pairs of heels. They are approximately a modern 7 1/2. I hope this is the right size for the picture. I'm not computer savvy, please forgive me if the image is too large.
