Aloha, I'm Tory, currently the Curator of Textiles and Historic Arts of Hawaiʻi at the Honolulu Museum of Art since the Fall of 2019. I studied historic costume in college and am glad to be working directly with textiles and clothing again. I'm a longtime member of the Costume Society of America and enjoy vintage fashion.
I can across this forum awhile ago looking for clothing label information and finally decided to join.

Hi and welcome to the forums, @Mr.Tory ! Sounds like a fascinating job you have and that would definitely be the museum I'd need to visit when I will finally make it to Hawaii. As those who know me better know, my heart's a little bit in the Pacific (not least thanks to my work in the tourism industry), but I've only been to the "other side" so far - French Polynesia, Fiji, Vanuatu, and I still want to see so much more. Well, one day...

Hi everyone. Just a wee bit about myself. I’m a 63 year old medically retired nurse and I’ve developed a love for vintage clothing. Some would say when they come into my spare room that I’m a hoarder but I’m also an avid crafter. My crafting passions are leatherworking, paper crafting and of course sewing. I’m trying to get my head around heritage sewing as I’m sewing a lot of clothes from 1890 to 1930. I’ve no doubt that I’ll also end up making items up to the 50s.

currently I’m trying to set up an Etsy shop to declutter things that I have no sentimental value as my home is bursting at the seams. I have the vintage items that I love and have sentimental value carefully stored away. I have no doubt that I’ll start looking at auctions etc to get more items to sell and keep.

oh, I almost forgot, I’m a crazy cat lady with 2 glorious Birman cats.

phew, what a novel.

Hi @Bobbs -

Feel free to share any items you have questions about and photos of your cats!

Hello everyone my name is Pharah and I am so obsessed with vintage! My love for vintage started about 2 years ago. But to be honest I just love fashion period and would buy things just because they were pretty and didn’t really pay attention to the label till about 2 years ago. I’m so glad I found this space and I know it will help expand my knowledge of vintage pieces! I can’t wait to see where it will take me.

Hi Folks

Stumbled across this forum today
As I've been involved in Vintage Clothing for nearly 60 years if I can help anyone just ask
It was known as second hand back then, my first foray into this amazing world was selling used Levis (acquired from an American Air Base) to London Mods who didn't want to look as if they'd just bought into the look with a new pair from Millets. New was £3, my used ones were £1

Welcome Ken!

Ah yes, I remember a rack at my favorite thrift store that said "Old clothes". Items were pocket change. :violins:

What are you doing right now with your vintage clothing if I might ask? Are you a dealer?

Right now I'm just wearing my vintage clothing. :>)
I'm pretty much retired these days. I did have the famous "The Thrift Shop" in London during the 70s/80s
Still do some film wardrobe sourcing and still design reproduction pre 1959 clothing for a firm I founded 40 years ago, [Link removed by admin]

Hi to one and all! I'm fairly new to the world of Vintage fashion, at least in identification of items. I've been drawn to Vintage items my whole life. From the books on Vintage fashions to the beautiful hat collection I put together from the old thrift stores in my small home town (which my mom subsequently tossed when I went to art school). I cried. Since then Vintage and antique bits and pieces have found their way to me. Silk evening sandals, perfumes, clothing, jewelry, books and my mannequin (Hazel is her name) lol.
On top of that I am a sewist of mostly historical garb and costumes.
I found this group while looking for a way to identify a fur coat I inherited from my great aunt. Im often researching things I find. I'm expecting to see all kinds of info on other people's finds!
