Hi All...I'm Robin and I'm new to the site as well. I had been into antique pottery and china for a while and just recently started looking at clothing when an estate more or less fell into my lap. I had responded to an ad for a washing machine, and when I went to look at it the woman apologized for the mess and said her Mom had passed. She said they were exhausted with trying to clean out the house because her mother was a shop-a-holic, and jokingly, she asked "how much will you give me for everything?" I took her up on her offer :sunshine: I immediately thought about the furniture and all the china I saw, but this woman had FOUR walk-in closets full of designer clothing...and in the largest walk-in closet, she had a walk-in cedar closet. She had a 4-drawer chest full of nothing but designer scarves. The family says that she had not been able to go upstairs into her room or closets for at least the last 12 years, and they were about ready to donate all the "old" clothes to Goodwill as I got there! So anyway...that started my journey into vintage clothing and accessories.
I stumbled upon this site by chance (much like the estate) and it has been really helpful for me. Since this woman with the designer clothes also received gifts right up until she died, I really have a hard time distinguishing what is vintage and what may have been a new gift. I saw the Resource Guide, but the labels I have aren't in there. Could anyone tell me if there are other resources to check out labels like Classics by Anne Klein and Yves Saint Laurent (not found in the database), Belvedere (Wien - Vienna - Austria), Mlle Ricci Paris, Bessi - Made in Italy. I also have a hard time with Eileen Fisher since her designs are very simple in cut and form and seem to stay the same. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
