Hello all!

Excited to be part of this fantastic forum. My name is Nora (Annora, really), twenty-give, Sydney (Australia)-based molecular biologist by day and fashion blogger by night. I'm also a vintage enthusiast, my fave eras are the 40s-60s. I'm a sucker for 50s cinched waist and circle skirt, but I have adopted Jean Seberg's pixie cut and loving it so I should really dress more 60s sometimes! I've been an admirer of vintage for years but have only started wearing them myself the past year or two. I'm keen to learn more about vintage pieces, how to date them and to take care of them :) This forum seems like the best place to learn, I see shop owners and enthusiasts like me being very active in here!

Have a great day!

Looking forward to learn from you all,
Nora

Hello everyone

I'm new! I'm Julie, a Brit living in Abruzzo, Italy. I have my own small business selling vintage over the internet, handbags mostly but branching out into clothing. Have always found this site useful, the label information pages in particular for someone learning about vintage clothing. Thanks so much for all the useful info!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and vintage fashion in general. But absolutely loving it! It started about six months ago when my mum lost her husband. She needed something else to focus on and I was looking for a new challenge. Mum is a massive charity shop fan and I'm an antiques dealer. And we are both shopaholics who love beautiful individual clothes or something that speaks of a particular time in history. Anyhow to cut a long story short we've got together a hopefully good collection from 1890 to 1980 and just spent 6 months buying some real unique pieces. Now we are about to launch our venture and decided to go in big by doing the vintage fashion fair in London.

To tell you the truth I'm as nervous as a new bride about what to expect. I've got some questions and would really appreciate some advice but is this the right thread to ask that. Could someone let me know.? My names Maria by the way

We've used this forum to do as much research as we can and its been an absolute godsend. Especially the label resource

Thankyou Maria

Hello! This is a picture of myself at Cheltenham races, in the kind of vintage gear I like to wear.

Okay a little about myself.

My name is Eliza and until recently I was the in house fitting model at Agent Provocateur. My time there gave me an appreciation of fashion and in particular, 'cut', because I was working day in day out with a talented team of designers. This heightened my love of both couture and vintage fashion as I began to realise while top fashion houses like AP put so much effort into design and production, by contrast most contemporary high street clothes are made from shoddy materials and badly cut and styled. Again by sharp contrast vintage clothing tends to be of good quality in terms of material and cut. Because it was important to turn up at work projecting the right sort of image I began to amass a good collection of stylish vintage clothing - it was also the most reasonable option price wise! However I incorporate vintage items into my own style. I hope that isn't heresy or something :)

I still model part time for designers and vintage vendors and events but my main work is now scientific research specifically in the area of palaeoclimatology in which I am engaged in the final year of my PhD.

I also however love horse racing and write a blog about my experiences as a racegoer and also about fashion at the races for the British Horseracing Authority. Horse racing is one of the few events that one can really dress up in vintage or couture finery in summer or in winter opt for traditional tweeds and vintage furs!

My Facebook is here: http://www.facebook.com/eliza.voiceoftheraces

I have joined the group to learn more about vintage fashion, look at vendors, and share my thoughts and humble knowledge.

I am beginning to compile an ongoing list of vintage vendors for my blog followers so please pm me if you are interested in being included in my list. I am naturally looking for those who sell the more glamorous vintage pieces suitable for a day at the races. My interest in fashion is not exclusively vintage - I have always mixed and matched rather than been a slave to a particular era. In fact some of my favourite pieces are 80's does 40's! I find that many vintage millinery pieces can become a little battered so I also tend to choose hats that are new but with retro or haute couture styling.

Some of my latest blog entry maybe of interest to members here - you can see my list so far at the bottom of the blog:

Then another piece that may be of interest was one I did about fashion in old hollywood movies Orry Kelly etc :

In addition my partner is an artist and also does some fashion design and restyles vintage items such as furs.

So I look forward to being part of the group for lots of reasons! xx Eliza

Hello!
Just wanted to introduce myself! I retired from business a few years ago & learned to enjoy finding cool vintage items on ebay, etsy, etc. Of course, one can only acquire so much, so I started selling some things in order to fund my little hobby. I read someone refer to this as "catch and release" & since my dad is an avid fisherman, that phrase resonated.

I love beautiful, well made clothing and accessories that have a history - even if I can only imagine that history.

I located this site while searching for help identifying some snakeskin bags and furs that I either want to gift or sell, but would hopefully love to learn more about them before I do. So, I will be posting pics with questions on the appropriate forums.

Anyway - hello to you all and thank you for creating and participating in such an interesting and helpful site.
I look forward to learning & hopefully helping too!

Margi

Hi :hiya:
I grew up in the 40s and 50's so that should make me Vintage right?. I am still learning and seeing things I have never seen before. I have always loved anything old or anything that looked old. so I really can'tremember when I did not collect. When we first married (1958) I bought all I could afford and decorated our little cottage with early attic as we called it in those days.I am still in love :violins:with my husband and Vintage.
Being in the antique business for forty years gave me so many opportunities to travel and find wonderful items at very affordable prices but I was more focused on furniture and glassware at that time. After selling my brick and mortar business three years ago I am loving having my own Etsy store. I love and want to get more into this aspect of collecting and selling and am very excited :cheer: to finally find Vintage Fashion Guild and the help that is available is so encouraging. Maybe I will even be able to help someone else. I hope so. Thanks for allowing me to be on here with all of you. Von

Hi, I'm Jen and I have used the resources on this site to identify my vintage items for months now. I figured it was time to finally register! Very excited to be a part of the forums!

Hi everyone! I love reading about all of you because vintage brings together a variety of enthusiasts.
My name is Katie, I am the co-owner and curator at . I started out buying vintage handbags when I was in high school because I loved the supple and sturdy leathers that they offered. I then started selling my own vintage bags on eBay and Etsy, and just launched my own website just a few months ago. I live in the Bay Area of California and I am always out hitting the streets for new finds. I can't wait to sit down and dissect what this site has to offer! Great to meet you all.

Katie

Hi, my name is Stephanie and i'm so glad I can finally find info on Vintage. I have loved Vintage since I was a little child watching Doris day, Marilyn Monroe and all the Musicals with my mum. The gowns were always so beautiful and I dreamt of being in those dresses someday. But instead I contented myself hitting the local Jumble sales and finding hidden treasures. I had some wonderful 50's finds nd paid very little for them in those days. Sadly my mum decided she did'nt like me dressing up in SECOND HAND CLOTHES and gave them to a charity shop without me knowing. Little did she know that such big things would happen in the fasion world for Vintage clothing. Now my daughter loves vintage so I content myself by tryng to find her real vintage items in charity shops. Which sometimes I do...

Hello everyone, really excited to be part of VFG! The Resources sections are so helpful, especially the labels section. A great way of helping me find out whether something is a genuine vintage item or a dodgy copy . Looking forward to getting more involved in the forums too.

Sarah

Hi I'm Rachael and I've been silently reading the forums for a wee time now so thought it was about time I joined and said hello. I'm a buyer not seller and don't know nearly as much as I'd like to. I've found the resources and forums here really helpful as well as a couple of books I've bought. I love vintage style, mainly 50s circle dresses personally, and wear a lot of repro but I'm slowly adding some real vintage.

Hi everyone! I'm Liz. I've just discovered this site and I'm looking forward to exploring further! I live in England and I work for the county museum service, partly in the costume & textile department, so vintage and historical clothing and textiles are something I'm especially interested in. My personal taste is the 1960s and 1970s - I have a growing collection of 60s dresses, but for every day I usually channel the 70s, with a lot of knitwear! Historically I'm interested in the late 1800s and early 1900s, especially the aesthetic and rational dress movements (I especially love cycling suits!). I'm also interested in film photography, particularly pre-1920s. Looking forward to chatting with you all and exploring the resources here! x
